Biography:
Surya Sen was born in 1894 in Chittagong (now in Bangladesh, then part of British India). He worked as a school teacher, which earned him the title “Masterda,” and used his position to spread revolutionary ideas among students and young Indians.
In 1930, he led the historic Chittagong Armoury Raid with the objective of seizing British arms and disrupting colonial control. Although the operation faced setbacks, it became one of the most daring revolutionary actions of the freedom struggle and inspired widespread nationalist sentiment.
Surya Sen was eventually captured by the British after prolonged efforts to evade arrest. He was executed in 1934 after being subjected to severe torture. His courage, leadership, and sacrifice secured his place as one of India’s most revered revolutionary martyrs.
