Biography:

Sarojini Naidu was born on 13 February 1879 in Hyderabad. A gifted writer from a young age, she pursued higher education in England and became widely known for her poetry, which earned her the title “Nightingale of India.” Alongside her literary career, she emerged as a committed nationalist influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership and ideals.

Naidu actively participated in major phases of the freedom movement, including the Non-Cooperation and Civil Disobedience movements. She travelled extensively across India, addressing public meetings and encouraging women to join the national struggle. Her eloquence and courage made her one of the most visible female leaders of the movement.

After independence, Sarojini Naidu continued to serve the nation and became the first woman Governor of an Indian state, Uttar Pradesh. She passed away on 2 March 1949, remembered for her contributions to both India’s political freedom and cultural heritage.
