Biography:
Laxmi Sehgal was born in 1914 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. She studied medicine and became a trained doctor, which later helped her serve in the Rani of Jhansi Regiment of the Indian National Army. Her dedication to India’s independence brought her into close collaboration with Subhas Chandra Bose.
During World War II, she led and trained women soldiers in the Rani of Jhansi Regiment, participating in revolutionary activities against the British. Her courage, leadership, and medical expertise made her a respected figure within the INA and among freedom fighters.
After India gained independence, Laxmi Sehgal continued her service to society by advocating for women’s rights, education, and social welfare. She remained a vocal proponent of justice and equality until her death in 2012. Her legacy as a revolutionary and social activist continues to inspire generations.
