Biography:
Jhalkaribai was born in 1828 in a small village in Madhya Pradesh. She belonged to the Koli community and was trained in martial arts and swordsmanship from a young age, which prepared her for battlefield leadership.
During the 1857 revolt, she served as a soldier and trusted lieutenant of Rani Lakshmibai. Notably, she disguised herself as the queen during a critical battle, allowing the Rani to escape and continue the fight. Her bravery earned her the title of “the female lion of Jhansi.”
Jhalkaribai died in 1858, leaving behind a legacy of courage and inspiring future generations of women to fight for justice and freedom. She remains an iconic figure in India’s struggle for independence.
