Biography:
Alluri Sitarama Raju was born on 4 July 1897 in Andhra Pradesh. Growing up in a tribal region, he was deeply aware of the exploitation of local communities by British authorities, particularly regarding oppressive forest laws and forced labor. Raju dedicated himself to organizing the tribal people to resist colonial policies.
In 1922, he led the Rampa Rebellion, also known as the Manyam Rebellion, uniting tribal groups against British officers. Using his knowledge of the hilly terrain and guerrilla warfare tactics, Raju successfully challenged the British forces and became a symbol of courage and resistance for the local population.
Despite his tactical brilliance, Raju was eventually tracked down and killed by the British in 1924. His leadership, dedication to tribal welfare, and fearless fight against oppression made him a revered regional hero and an enduring symbol of India’s struggle for independence.
